The euro (EUR) rose slightly against the US dollar (USD) on Friday, and with the help of a weaker dollar, traders digest cautious geopolitical signals from the White House. U.S. President Donald Trump plans to decide within two weeks whether the U.S. may participate in the Israel-Iran conflict, eased direct concerns about swift military action and slightly boosted risk appetite.

In the range-to-range market on Friday, the EUR/USD pair remained near 1.1510, slightly falling from the conversational high of 1.1535. Meanwhile, the US dollar index (DXY) is still under slight pressure, falling below 99.00, trading close to 98.75, and market sentiment is sluggish as the market remains vigilant about the possible participation of the United States in the Israel-Iran conflict.

The Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank Manufacturing Index remained at -4.0 in June 2025, not changing to May, and did not meet the market expectations for a slight decline to -1. The reading highlights that manufacturing activity in the region remains weak, affected by early signs of weaker demand and cooling labor market conditions.

The ongoing Middle East conflict continues to disturb global markets, pushing sharp rises in crude oil prices and raising concerns about the re-emergence of inflationary pressure in the euro zone. It is worth noting that overall inflation in the euro zone fell to 1.9% in May from 2.2% in April, the first time in months that it has dropped below the ECB's 2% target.

The European Central Bank (ECB) cut key interest rates for the eighth earlier this week and said its easing cycle is eouu.cning to an end. Speaking in Italy, ECB Council member François Villeroy de Galjo pointed out that unless there is a major external shock—— including any new military escalation in the Middle East — otherwise monetary policy may still be further inclined toward easing over the next six months. He also pointed out that the recent strength of the euro against the dollar should help alleviate some of the inflationary impacts brought about by high oil prices.

In the U.S., the Federal Reserve (Fed) kept the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.25%-4.50% for the fourth time earlier this week, continuing to take a wait-and-see attitude as policymakers weighed the trade-off between sustained inflation risks and signs of weakening economic momentum. Recent data show that overall inflation rose slightly to 2.4% in May, up from 2.3% in April, while core inflation remained around 2.8%, still above the Fed’s eouu.cnfort zone.

While the market still expects the Fed to cut interest rates twice this year, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell warned that cost pressure from tariffs or the reappearance of new tensions in the Middle East could eouu.cnplicate the easing path. Despite this policy divide, the euro is currently in a favorable position, supported by ongoing tariff uncertainty.
