Gold price (gold/dollar) fell for the second consecutive day during the Asian session on Thursday, marking a negative trend on the third of the previous four days, falling to a low in more than a month, below the $3,150 level. Optimism has become a key factor in continuing to weaken safe-haven gold as the potential trade war between the U.S. and China — the two largest economies in the world — cools down. In addition, a 90-day U.S.-China trade ceasefire has eased concerns about a U.S. recession, forcing investors to cut bets on more radical policy easing of the Federal Reserve. This supported a further rise in Treasury yields and prompted the outflow of unyielding gold.
At the same time, despite the above-mentioned supportive fundamental background, the US dollar (USD) still struggles to take advantage of the rebound from its weekly low the day before. However, this provides little support for gold prices. Even if global risk sentiment worsens slightly and stocks generally weaken, it has failed to help precious metals attract any meaningful buyers. In addition, the break below the $3200 mark overnight and closes below it, indicating that the minimum resistance path for gold/dollar is down. Traders are now looking forward to the launch of the U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) and the presence of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to get clues about the path to cut rates, which should provide new impetus for the eouu.cnmodity.
Gold prices fell below the 61.8% Fibonacci level, which seemed vulnerable, and could further slide into the $3135-3133 support range
From a technical point of view, the overnight break below the $3200 mark and subsequently below the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level that rose strongly in April can be seen as a new touch for bearish tradersFactors. In addition, the oscillators on the daily chart have just begun to gain negative momentum, indicating that gold prices may fall further to the $3135-3133 support level. Some subsequent sell-offs may further drag the gold/USD pair toward the $3100 mark, and if it falls below it may expose the next related support near the $3060 region.
On the other hand, if you try to recover above the $3168-3170 region (61.8% Fibonacci level), you may face strong resistance ahead of the $3200 mark or Asian session high. Any further gains may now be seen as a selling opportunity and risk rapidly fading around the $3230 area or 50% retracement level. The latter should be a key point, and a breakthrough may trigger a new wave of rebounds, pushing gold to the intermediate resistance of $3,265, and then reaching the integer mark of $3,300 (38.2% Fibonacci level).
